The death of a Man. The Life of a Monster.
I wanted to just touch on briefly why I wrote a novella about a dead guy from Dirty Salvation ( oops, spoiler! ) Firstly, I’m assuming if you’re reading this blog post then you’re up to date with the Renegade Souls boys and know exactly who Kyle ‘Hades‘ Williams was. He was not a nice guy, a moral guy, a likable nor lovable character and he had to die in the end, there was zero redeemable qualities about Hades.
And this brings me to secondly. I was compelled to write his story more-so than any other so far, though we know his outcome and where he ends up ( Thanks, Hawk) It began with a conversation with a friend, as most ideas sprout from and we wondered why he was the way he was. Where did all his hate and revenge stem from. Surely a monster like him wasn’t born that way?
And then he began to tell me his story and I jotted a few things down, never intending to show anyone, let alone publish his story. He’s dead, he has no HEA and my tagline is literally; you get a HEA, you get a HEA. EVERYONE GETS A HEA! How on earth can I write a book with no romance and no happily ever after? That was the dilemma.
And again I kept coming back to being so driven to understand Hades and the atrocities he’d committed to my heroines Zara and Ruby, and not forgetting he murdered sweet lovable Tiny (I’m still so sorry!) so as I wrote glimpses of the little boy and then the teenager who became the man we all knew in Dirty Salvation and his story became clear.
Hades made his own choices. He became the monster we knew because he chose it. It wasn’t so difficult to understand him after all once I knew that. His path was of his own making and while I find him evil and deplorable, my heart is still sore for the little boy and the teenager no one loved. I could see shards of potential in this man that he never utilized because being bad was so much easier to him. He hated the world because the world made him invisible. No one loved him so he hated every single person he met.
Kyle was one of my most taxing writing projects, yet twistedly, I enjoyed spending time with him again and I wanted to share a little of my reasoning behind wanting to include his story in the RS verse for those wondering. His book won’t be for everyone. I won’t mind at all anyone who isn’t fussed to know what he did those three years he held Zara captive. I kept a lot of it out, but it is graphic in nature. I touch on the cabin with Ruby. But I also hope I showed a human side. Albeit it badness. He’s human. He fucks up constantly for the wrong reasons.
This novella is for those readers who surprisingly liked the bad man and told me they wanted to know more. Call this vignette novella a compendium to the first two books where all questions are answered but it’s not needed to read if you don’t want to know more of Hades. It doesn’t affect the rest of the series which WILL be all romance. So much romance! Ha.
So, thank you for indulging me in my little side bar non HEA book. I promise it’s a one time only deal! I hope if nothing else when you read Hades, you too can understand the mind of an evil man.
